Summary
Sister teachers felt that especially given the pandemic, creating a project for 2nd and 3rd graders from the Mountain View School on the Big Island of Hawaii to meet and share with 2nd and 3rd graders from Maui’s Hawaii Technology Academy.
Maile and Kainoa started this peacebuilding work with consideration of Hawaiian concepts of Moku (island), Mokupuni (surrounding islands), and Ahupua’a (the land as it stretches from mountain to sea).
Then the keiki (children) shared where their homes are, locating them on maps.
They wrote letters to each other and read those letters aloud in class.
