"Deflating Anger"

Summary
Participants learn to identify what makes them angry, what they wish could happen instead, what they have learned from the anger, and how they are going to take that learning and make good use of it.
Instructional Strategies
1. Teach youth that anger can be a healthy emotion, and that it informs us about the importance of an issue.
2. Teach them to remain calm when dealing with anger by breathing deeply and using attentive body language.
3. Teach them how to help an angry person discover the cause of their anger by restating the problem.
4. Use "I" statements to express feelings in a way that thoughtfully channels anger into productive action.
5. The goal is to identify what makes them angry, what they wish could happen instead, what they have learned from the anger, and how they are going to take that learning and make good use of it.
Participant Tasks
1. Understand that anger can be a healthy emotion, and that it informs us about the importance of an issue.
2. Breathe deeply and be aware of body language to remain calm when dealing with anger.
3. Restating the problem using "I" statements to express feelings in a way that thoughtfully channels anger into productive action.
