Participants will talk through the essential qualities of a leader with their community and evaluate their own leadership skills.

Instructional Strategies

1. Have your participants select several people who are respected leaders.

2. Some of the leaders should be local, some from the larger city, national, or global community

3. Have participants list all the skills that these leaders possess - whether they are unique or commonly shared.

4. Facilitate discussion about these skills and the ways the selected leaders use the skills.

5. Talk about how these leaders act in everyday situations and in crisis situation.

6. Ask participants to consider their own leadership skills and how these skills help them navigate daily life.

7. Conduct interviews of leaders to test theories of leadership

8. Build skills in teamwork, team-building, effective communication, and leadership strategies by completing a carefully guided team project.
