Summary
Participants will identify their ideal community and discuss the materials needed to achieve it.
Instructional Strategies
1. Create a large chart at the front of the classroom and label it "Wants and Needs Table".
2. Referring to the wants and needs table, have youth each draw their own classroom, school and/or family.
3. How would their needs be met? They will most likely draw hospitals, gardens, homes for shelter, and friends.
4. Select one drawing to duplicate at the front of the room
5. Discuss how you would acquire those needs.
6. See what they say; then, introduce bartering, paying in currency, etc.
7. Ask them to think what the currency would be.
8. Ask participants which of the needs they've drawn they desire most and why.
9. Discuss the responsibilities we have for taking care of each other and ourselves, and the common needs we all share.
Participant Tasks
